Freedom

The composition of this piece was defined in part by the antique frame inherited from my grandmother, which I refurbished and gilded with gold leaf. I am intrigued by skies and clouds in particular, and look for relationships between subjects and background to describe the relationship between what is natural and what is supernatural. Based on recurring dreams of unaided flight, and reflecting my own sense of spiritual freedom, this painting represents the soul unbound from oppression. Free from the constraints of artificial boundaries placed by self or others, the unbound spirit executes unfettered pitches, yaws and rolls across the wildest of blue yonders. In it, I am an F-22 in a Speedo. I am free!
