About That Hat

This young artist is an emmy award winning video editor. She models for me regularly. I live near the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. and whenever I visit I make a pilgrimage to Vermeer's painting of the girl in the red hat. I love that little painting. I painted this one in homage to Vermeer, and I made it larger because here and now, our problems and decisions always seem larger than life. I love the heavy weight of the mode''s cloak, and to me it is a metaphor for how the young people these days have the weight of the world on their shoulders.
