Doppelgänger

My self portrait was created from life at my studio over the course of three consecutive days during the lockdown days of the pandemic. The portrait was done as an exercise of looking into myself, not only into the physical aspect but into the spiritual one. The time I decided to paint my self portrait was a difficult one for me. I was on a stage of distress, confusion, uncertainty and lack of inspiration or motivation to paint. Much to my surprise, after I finished the work, I found it to be very precise physically but very distant on the spiritual side. When I looked at it, I felt as if I was looking at myself from a place I didn't know existed within me. A much darker place; a different spiritual level. An identical being to myself and yet very distant.
