Cheryl Painting at Lacamas Falls

Self-portrait of the artist sitting on a rocky outcropping painting the waterfalls at Lacamas Creek. My source material was a photo of myself painting with gouache alla prima in one of my favoroite plein air spots. I have painted from this spot and others along Lacamas Creek many times for reference. This contemporary painting is done with brushes and palette knife in mainly blue-green and dull orange tones. The overhead light is often diffused by the overarching trees in the canyon. I wanted the effect to look alla prima like the many other paintings I did here.
